The last Downtown Friday on 14th Avenue was May 29. The next one is October 30, a Halloween street party that Main Street Vero Beach calls its season kickoff. The five months in between covered most of a summer, and the street did not sit still. A pub on the main block became a different bar in about nine days. City crews finished part of a streetscape refresh, and other pieces stalled. The Halloween party now has a second half that runs past the time the stage shuts down.
So the season opener is also the first time many people will see these changes together, with the street closed and the crowd out.
The bar at 2019 14th Avenue has a new name
Sean Ryan's Pub closed for good on August 18. Hometown News reported that new owner Lori Moreira bought the pub in August 2026, partnered with Robert Vaccaro on a quick renovation, and reopened the space as Vero Sports Bar and Grill on August 28. That was one day earlier than the August 29 date TCPalm had reported before the opening.
The new version leans local. It has a room dedicated to Vero Beach High School, Florida-team décor, more screens, and an updated draft list. Several Sean Ryan's favorites stayed on the menu, next to new sports-bar staples. The bar's own site now lists 30 HD screens, a six-foot live sports ticker, and a private room named for the Fighting Indians. TCPalm's August preview had quoted "20+" screens.
That makes October 30 the bar's first Downtown Friday under its new name, and it is also one of the six stops on the night's costume crawl.
The city's refresh is partly installed
The sidewalks may look different too, though not in every spot. At the July 27, 2026 meeting of the city's Economic Development Zone Committee, City Engineer Danessa Chambers gave this status for the downtown projects:
- Signage: finished.
- Plantings: split into two phases because of Florida Power and Light work scheduled for the fall.
- New benches, trash cans, and bike racks: staff was still collecting prices, and the items had to go through procurement before they could be ordered.
- Pattern paving: the city got one bid, it did not meet specifications, and staff decided not to accept it. Chambers said the pavement is in rough enough shape that the next attempt may cover only the crosswalks, and that the project may miss the current paving schedule.
- The 14th Avenue traffic signal: still waiting for approval of the mast arms.
The money for the next round is in the proposed budget the committee reviewed at that meeting. It includes $100,000 for 14th Avenue streetscape improvements, $150,000 for a downtown wayfinding program, $80,000 for downtown lighting and security, and $20,000 for enhanced streetscape along SR 60. Planning Director Jason Jeffries said the committee chose to take on only some short-term projects for now. The committee also recommended a design option for a Pocahontas Park amphitheater, though the minutes say cost and funding were not settled.
That status dates from late July, and some items may have moved since. For the latest, the next Meet Me on Main is coming up soon.
October fills in one event at a time
Downtown's fall doesn't start on a single night. The events start in the first week of October and build toward the 30th.

The October gallery stroll already happened. The Vero Beach Art Club holds it monthly from 5 to 8 p.m., and the next two are November 6 and December 4. Main Street's page bills Meet Me on Main as a free community gathering with city updates. That's the place to ask about mast arms and crosswalk paving.
The Theatre Guild's run of Come From Away overlaps Downtown Friday by two days. On the night of the street party, the musical still has its final weekend ahead.
October 30, in order
Main Street has run Downtown Friday as a free street party since 1994. This year's Halloween edition happens in stages, and some of them start before the music does.
- 3 p.m. 14th Avenue closes for setup.
- 6 p.m. The party starts. Jesse and The Thieves play the main stage, and vendors and local businesses hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. DJ Jason Patzer and a haunted maze are on the north end. Sunrise Rotary runs a can-castle build and contest during the band's breaks.
- Same hours, indoors. The Heritage Market opens inside the Heritage Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Its rules call for locally grown and handcrafted goods, and this season it is limiting tables to two vendors per product type.
- 9 p.m. The street party ends. The bar crawl has no posted start time, but its finish line is 10:30 p.m.
Main Street notes that most vendors take cards, but the beer tent and some others take cash only. Bring a chair if you want to sit for the music.
The night now runs until 10:30 at Kilted Mermaid
Main Street says the Monster Mash will turn into a costume bar crawl and that more details are coming. So far the page lists six venues and one rule: be at Kilted Mermaid by 10:30 p.m. for a chance to win $500. It does not list a start time, a route order, or how the drawing works.
The six stops, as each venue describes itself:
- The Grove, 2115 14th Avenue, is a cocktail bar open daily from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. Its September posts promoted the Sarti Spritz, made with blood orange, mango, passion fruit, and Prosecco, and a Wednesday karaoke and Whiskey Wednesday night.
- The Stamp, 2015 13th Avenue, is a block off the main strip and open from noon to 2 a.m. daily. A July 12, 2026 TCPalm feature described its punk festivals and weekly open mics.
- Blue Agave, 1979 14th Avenue, is a Mexican restaurant with a full bar and house-infused tequila. Its menu highlights an award-winning shrimp ceviche and a Mango Habanero Margarita.
- The Irish Club on the crawl list matches the Irish American Club at 1314 20th Street, which serves food and drinks with live music.
- Vero Sports Bar, 2019 14th Avenue, is the August newcomer described above.
- Kilted Mermaid, 1937 Old Dixie Highway, is a craft beer and wine bar with more than 25 wines by the glass, over 80 craft and import beers, cheese and chocolate fondues, and a patio. Original music is on its regular Friday schedule.
Two of the six are on 20th Street or Old Dixie Highway, and The Stamp is on 13th Avenue. The crawl reaches past 14th Avenue, where the street party is held, and it ends at a venue whose Friday live music is part of its regular week.
After Halloween
November keeps a similar pattern with a few changes. First Friday returns November 6. The Monroeville Bluegrass Band plays the Heritage Center on November 25, and the next Downtown Friday is November 27.
December runs on a different calendar. Main Street's season list skips from November 27 to January 29, and the Heritage Market also takes December off. In its place, Miracle on 14th is set for December 11, with details still listed as "coming soon." The Theatre Guild opens A Christmas Carol: The Musical that same night for a run through December 20. The Fil Pate Trio plays the bluegrass series on December 16.
